Covid-19 pandemic and multiple lockdowns have acted as a catalyst to youth unemployment. It has meant many young people are without jobs in 2021 as businesses cannot afford to hire entry level workers.

According to Welsh Government, the youth unemployment rate in Wales is at 10.9% which is lower than the overall UK rate of 13.3%. This means, although Wales has less people in unemployment, the percentage is still high.

Similarly, youth unemployment rates fell 3.3% since 2001 but actually rose in the UK overall. Although this is positive, there is still not much change in 10 years. The government is now encouraging businesses to help close the unemployment gap.

Tune Into Your Potential Youth Employment Workshop

Employment Skills Workshop

To help improve these rates we want to help NEET individuals (not in education, employment or training) aged 16-25 years old improve their soft skills and employability skills. This is when Tune Into Your Potential was born!

The aim of the workshop is to use the power of music and song writing to increase participant’s confidence, motivation and team working skills. Alongside this, they will have the chance to enhance their soft skills and general employability to help them take the next step into training or employment.

Following completion of the Tune Into Your Potential workshop, Rewise Learning tutors will work closely with the project partakers to help find local employment and training opportunities. Tutors will even help learners fill in application forms and practice interview questions.

The project has been part funded by the European Regional Development Fund through the Welsh government and the Active Inclusion Fund. It will be offered free of charge to eligible people throughout Swansea, Neath Port Talbot, Bridgend, and Carmarthenshire.
